When Alsace Met Asia

‘Pure expressions, cuisine enhancing’ is how Andrew Barrow, author of the Wine Opus’ Alsace chapter succinctly sums the wines of France’s most easterly region. Curious to see how expressions of its three major white grapes, Riesling, Gewurtztraminer and Pinot Gris, could compliment the fresh, delicately textured morsels of Japanese cuisine, I booked into London’s ‘sake no hana’, a restaurant arguably at the acme of its genre. Playing passenger and second palate was guest, Will Gau, Wine Director of international events firm, Cellar Society.
