Filled With Spirit

Madeira: subject to the original 'UHT' treatment for that possessing an ABV; barrels on board boats becoming baked on voyage to the tropics. D'Oliveras: a respected producer with an acclaimed back catalogue. Their Doce Aged 10 Years (the statement referring to the minimum component) is dark Sadolin wood protector in colour with a dense, mysterious nose suggesting Bakelite (polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride) and dark chocolate, with some Marrons Glacé, Amaretto and toasted merringue. On the expansive, protracted, powerful and flavoursome palate: a soft mouthfeel, chopped nuts, scorched fruit including some prune. A journey almost to extremes. Indulgently delicious. I sipped it cold, which warmed me up.
