FROM THE vineyard around the home of celebrated husband and wife growing team, Didier and Catherine Champalou comes Le Portail, a full, barrel aged Loire Chenin Blanc. Their chichily packaged '04 rendition is limpid, with Empire apples and prime, plump crab apples on the nose and a snugly-contoured, lively palate with good mileage in its finish. Time will ripen, hence this is not a Chenin to shun, but to cellar.
